Cortona3D adds support for JT™ Open

Extends industry leading support of 3D formats by joining the JT™ Open Program

12 February 2008

Cortona3D, the proven leader in 3D ‘Visual Know-How’ software to global OEMs, today announced new support for the JT™ data format and membership in the JT Open Program. The JT Open Program is a global community of leading manufacturers, PLM vendors, and academic institutions focused on supporting and promoting JT, a versatile 3D data format widely used throughout the global manufacturing industry to facilitate visualization, collaboration and data sharing in the product and tool development processes.

“JT has been widely accepted within the industry as a flexible, reliable, and viewable format for 3D data,” said Connell Gallagher, President, Cortona3D. “Through our JT Open Module, Cortona3D empowers our customers to publish design data directly from this preferred format into powerful product support materials using Cortona3D RapidManual, RapidCatalog, RapidLearning and/or many third party applications. With JT as a standard 3D format used in manufacturing environments today, this new capability will enable collaboration using JT files regardless of the original source CAD system.

” Cortona3D open standards software enables OEMs to reuse existing CAD assets to author lightweight, interactive 3D visualizations and simulations for more effective support documentation across business functional areas. The software automates the import and linking of engineering data which improves accuracy /quality and allows all of the resources to be centrally managed so that future updates and revisions can be efficiently generated. Outputs with real-time updates can be delivered online. Proven benefits are three times faster production, 60% cost savings, and improved quality.

“We are delighted to welcome Cortona3D as members of the JT Open program. Their enhanced support of JT is evidence of the strong momentum and industry adoption that the JT format has established through the advocacy of the JT Open Program members across the globe,” said Mark Matousek, JT Open program manager for Siemens PLM Software, the developer of the JT data format.

“This move supports Cortona3D’s goal to deliver ‘Visual Know-How’ products that enable the repurposing of 3D design data for use in technical publications, supplier collaboration materials, and service and customer support communications,” said Connell Gallagher, president of Cortona3D. “We continue to support all industry file formats that will facilitate this and meet the needs of our customers and marketplace.”

ABOUT JT AND JT OPEN

The JT Open Program is an initiative driven by global leaders that view PLM as a competitive advantage and have adopted the 3D JT data format as a standard. JT is a common 3D data format for enabling product visualization and information sharing between PLM software applications. The robust functionality and lightweight nature of JT technology makes it possible to view and share product data, manufacturing information and interactive images worldwide, in real-time and throughout all phases of the product lifecycle.

Membership in JT Open is available to any and all end user corporations, independent software vendors (ISVs), academic institutions and non-profit industry organizations. Current JT Open members include Siemens, General Motors, Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Mazda, Renault, Robert Bosch GmbH, Visteon, Caterpillar, Autoweb, Bentley, PTC, Alias, Theorem, Opticore, Polyplan, Landmark, Spicer, Realtime Technology and Actify as well as academic members Brigham Young University, Technical University Darmstadt, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Michigan. In addition, many other companies that derive indirect value from the initiative participate as JT Open advocates. JT Open advocates include HP, Intel, Microsoft, SAP and Elysium.
